What Is A Cajon?

A Cajon is a box-shaped percussion instrument which is believed to originate from Peru. The cajon is typically played with the hands and fingers, but brushes, mallets and sticks can also be used. All faces of the cajon can be played, and like the Compass Cajon, the sides and rear are constructed from a different material to the front, brining different sounds to experiment with. The DG Compass Cajon also features 2 steel strings which can be tuned.

Who Can Play The Cajon?

Everyone can! That’s the idea behind this years Pre-Christmas Drumshop deal, it’s suitable for the whole family! It doesn’t matter wether you’re a drummer, guitarist, singer, or a bit of everything (or nothing!) the Compass Cajon will bring hours of entertainment and is the perfect instrument for all ages.

When Can It Be Played?

As I mentioned above, the cajon is a great musical instrument for all ages and can be played by everyone. It’s becoming more and more popular in todays music industry featuring in music styles such as blues, pop, rock, funk, world music, fusion, jazz and more. Whether you’re a musician or not, you can become one with this simple instrument! The cajon is often referred to as a 'drum kit in a box’ and sounds beautiful when accompanied by an acoustic guitar and is perfect for buskers on the move who need to carry as little as possible. Play the cajon alone or with friends, indoors or outdoors, it wont let you down!

How Big Is A Cajon?

This particular cajon (the Compass) is 49cm x 29cm x 29cm but they can vary in size and weight.

Tell Me More About The DG Compass Cajon…

The body of the Compass cajon is made of Medium Density, a wooden fibre conglomerate. The front plate has been constructed from 3 plies of Baltic Birch and features a polyurethanic finish. The Compass cajon comes complete with De Gregorio cajon case which has been made with polyester 600D fabric and has a padded 0.5” foam layer to keep your cajon safe from any bumps and bangs. The DGB01 cajon bag also features two sturdy rucksack straps for easy carrying.
