I just remembered that I promised (Andy) to write a few lines on how I found the AHEAD cases that I recently ordered with my new kit.
Superficially they are very similar to the offerings from their competitor, down to the faux sheepskin interior, however they do have a distinctive 'pear shape’ which is presumably to cater for the 'isolating’ mounting brackets that have become very fashionable in recent years.
Of course if you haven’t got these brackets then they are wasted space and make the cases baggier than ever.
The cases seem to be constructed very well and the zips are heavier duty than the competitors ones but the way in which they loop down to create a 'tab’ around the handle just mean that they’re more awkward (in my humble opinion) to do up again. As yet I’ve no idea how durable they will turn out to be but they certainly seem to be heavy duty.
One nice feature of the bass drum case is the 'pouch’ handles on either side which make carrying it easier (albeit using both hands) than the competitions equivalent.
In summary then, they look quite capable of protecting your drums for longer than it’ll take for you to get tired of them and want a change… just contact the Drum Shop and they’ll sell you a new kit to fit your old cases!
