About Gabor Dornyei
One of Europe's most celebrated drummers, Gabor "Gabs" Dornyei is a world-class solo artist, session drummer, touring musician, and educator with a career that spans continents and genres. In 2018, DRUMEO listed Gabor among their Top 10 Drummers in the World — and it's easy to see why.
Since 2016, Gabs has been the touring and recording drummer for 4x Grammy Award-nominated American jazz guitar genius Stanley Jordan, performing headliner shows across North and South America, Europe, the UK, and Africa.
As a session drummer, Gabs has played on gold and platinum-selling pop-rock albums and recorded for Walt Disney Co. He has been the house and recording drummer for top UK record producer Andy Whitmore for over 15 years — whose credits include Elton John, Peter Andre, Atomic Kitten, and Jason Donovan.
Gabs has released two CDs and three DVDs under his own name to 5-star reviews and critical acclaim, including tHUNder Duo with Dom Famularo (Hudson Music), Drums, Music and Friends, and Rhythm Frontier — a duo release with world percussionist Pete Lockett (Hunnia Records).
As a touring drummer, he has performed at Glastonbury, Sziget Festival, the London Jazz Festival, Music China Festival (Shanghai), Ronnie Scott's, Canary Wharf Jazz Festival, Cape Verde Jazz Festival, and countless international drum festivals — sharing the bill with legends including Billy Cobham, Ian Paice, Terry Bozzio, Steve Smith, Gavin Harrison, and Dom Famularo. He has also completed 10 extensive solo drum clinic tours across China.
Gabs has been featured in every major international drumming publication, including Modern Drummer Magazine (USA), and on global platforms such as DRUMEO (Vancouver) and Drum Channel (Los Angeles).
A World-Class Educator
In 2023, Gabs was appointed Head of Drums at the prestigious LCCM London University. He holds a Level 7 PGCert qualification and is a Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy. He has been teaching privately for 30 years and in higher education for over 15, presenting clinics and masterclasses at almost every notable institution in the UK and EU, as well as the renowned Drummers Collective Institute (DCI) in New York.
He authored the full drum curriculum for the Detroit Institute of Music Education (DIME) in the USA and served as Head of Drums for DIME Online from 2014–2018. He currently runs three private drum schools — Harrow, Pinner, and Northwood Drum Schools — as well as online lessons and remote sessions from his home studio, Gabbey Road Studio.
