DRUMSHOP XMAS GIFT GUIDE: MERCH & DRUMSTICKS

DAY 5: MORE DRUMMER STOCKING FILLERS

Stuck for a stocking filler for the drummer in your life? This is our guide to our top choices of gifts for budding and experienced drummers this Christmas...

Drum Sticks

Drumsticks on the Christmas list this year but overwhelmed by sizes, materials brands etc?? Not to worry, here's our guide to the most popular variations of drumsticks at DrumShop UK.

Sizes:

Drumsticks come in a variety of sizes, these sizes are categorised into different configurations of a letter and a number. The number indicates the circumference of the stick - the lower the number, the thicker the stick (1 is the thickest drum stick, while 8 is the thinnest.) The letter indicates the size, weight and application of the stick. The 3 different letters are S, A and B:

  • 'S' Drumsticks are generally very heavy and intended for street performances such as marching band.
  • 'A' Drumsticks are lighter and ideal for lower volume situations in a jazz combo or orchestra.
  • 'B' Drumsticks are slightly heavier making them easier to control and a favourite for many rock drummers.

Popular configurations:

  • 5A - 5A is the standard size drumstick, not to thick, thin, light or heavy. A perfectly versatile stick that covers all musical and playing styles.
  • 5B - Also a versatile go to drumstick, only the 5B is slightly heavier than the 5A, making it easier to control.
  • 7A - 7A sticks are a lot lighter than 5A due to their thin, size 7 circumference, and their weight band A, being lighter, lower volume. This makes 7A the perfect stick for jazz players.
  • 2B - 2B sticks are the second thickest sticks with a heavier B band weight, making them loud, easy to control, and the perfect stick for rock drumming.

We have a massive range of drumsticks here, so take a look and if you still need a hand, don't hesitate to give us a phone call!
