Evans Tuning Day with Ben Alldred
On March 23rd, we had the the delight of welcoming Ben Alldred to DRUMSHOP for an Evans Tuning Day!
Drummers were encouraged to bring down their personal snare drum for a 30 minute consultation with Ben who recommended the most suitable drum heads and Snare wires for each drum based on shell type, genre and playing style. Participants had the opportunity to engage in a hands-on experience where they learned essential tuning principles and techniques. From basic tuning fundamentals to advanced tension adjustments, drummers gained invaluable insights into the nuances of snare drum maintenance and optimisation.
As D’Addario UK’s percussion product specialist for Evans Drumheads and Promark Drumsticks, Ben Alldred has worked with many top drumming artists and clinicians including: Anika Nilles, Benny Greb, Kaz Rodriguez, Chris Coleman, Marco Minnemann, Eddie Thrower, Federico Paulovich and Matt Halpern to name a just few. For over 17 years Ben has worked closely with players of all levels, helping them achieve their perfect drum sound through head selection, tuning and experimentation. Drawing upon years of experience and a deep understanding of percussion dynamics, Ben worked closely with each attendee to identify their unique preferences and help them achieve optimal sound quality.

The tuning day was a resounding success, leaving a lasting impact on all who attended. Through expert guidance, hands-on guidance, and a vibrant community atmosphere, drummers were empowered to elevate their beats and unlock new dimensions of musical excellence. As they departed with finely-tuned snare drums and a renewed sense of passion and purpose, they carried with them the knowledge that their musical journey had been enriched and their potential as drummers had been elevated to new heights. Even the DRUMSHOP staff got involved and had their own lesson, which will benefit us helping our lovely customers!
