RAW Drum Co. is an extension of DRUMSHOP, created by us drummers to produce the gear you want and need to ease yours and our drumming frustrations! Some of the gear RAW has brought out includes practice pads, drum mats, cymbals felts, drum thrones, merch, and most recently drumheads, which is what we’re focusing on in this blog.
RAW offers 6 drumheads in a variety of sizes. The twin-ply clear drumheads come in 10”, 12”, 13”, 14” and 16”, and the single-ply coated drumhead comes in 14”, perfect for your snare.
All the heads have a quality aluminium rim with steel core. The 14” coated is perfect for light to medium use and offers an old school ‘warm’ sound with strong attack and medium sustain. The clear drumheads are good for medium to heavy uses, with a fast attack and decay with minimal sustain, featuring a bonded outer ring for more controlled sound.
The cutting-edge design guarantees an ideal harmony of tones, whether you're jamming to jazz or rocking out. Experience a sound that cuts through any mix, with every nuance coming through with exceptional clarity. Longevity is essential for drumming, and our drumhead is engineered for durability. You can forget about concerns over damage and concentrate on your performance. Additionally, its elegant design enhances your drum setup, effortlessly complementing any style.
The RAW coated drumhead offers more than just aesthetics; it's designed to enhance the sonic character of your drums. Each strike brings out the richness and depth in your sound, creating a diverse range of tones that resonate with clarity and power. Whether you're playing gentle jazz brushes or intense rock beats, this drumhead ensures that your sound stands out with precision and impact. What sets the RAW coated drumhead apart is its exceptional control and responsiveness. Experience unparalleled dynamic range and sensitivity as the drumhead effortlessly translates your musical expression into sound. From delicate ghost notes to strong accents, this drumhead empowers you to articulate yourself with finesse and clarity like never before.
"The skin allows the drum to produce a nice sharp sound. It works well across tuning ranges and is easy to tune and setup. The skin is lasting well and has been used in live playing, recording studios and rehearsals. The skin is good with holding tension."
"RAW twin ply clear drumheads, similar to an Evans G2, produce a warm and controlled tone. The two plies provide a deep, punchy sound with a balanced resonance. The controlled tone is particularly beneficial for those that like a deep tone to their toms especially in studio settings where excessive overtones can be problematic."
"The sound remains consistent across the tuning ranges I tried. At lower tunings, the heads provide a fat, “thuddy” sound ideal for rock and heavier music. At higher tunings the tone remained controlled. They mostly maintain their tension and tuning stability exceptionally well, with only a couple of instances where I’ve had to slightly re-tune after lengthy rehearsal sessions. But overall, they hold their pitch and sound very well."
"Having used the RAW Tom drumheads for a couple of months, they have shown impressive durability. Even under heavy playing conditions, the heads have resisted dents and wear, maintaining their sound quality over time."
"The drumheads feel great to play on, with excellent rebound and response. Stick feel is firm yet comfortable, allowing for good dynamics. Whether playing softly or laying into them, the heads respond very well."
"Compared to other twin ply heads like the Evans G2 or my go-to head the Code Generator, the RAW Tom drumheads offer a slightly warmer “meatier” tone with similar durability. Their consistency throughout my time with them has been impressive and I’d happily stand them up against the competition."
"At first look I thought these remind me of older, and more durable, double ply heads, a bit like removing pinstripes without the stripe. I usually use Evans G2 heads on my toms as I like them to be low tuned, making my drums sound deeper and more of a rock sound. I put the new heads on and found these to be easily tuned without messing around too much, I literally finger tightened the lugs and gave them less than a full turn each and realised I had a nice sounding deep tom straight away. I tried the drum next to my Evan headed one and found that it had less over ring and sounded just as good. I replaced the other two I had and they were just as easy to tune. I had two live shows coming up and thought I'd test them out properly. I only had to make a couple of tuning alterations at the shows before playing and found these to sound great and easily as good as the Evans heads I had been using. Two full shows and me playing them quite hard as I do and they are holding up great. I would certainly recommend these heads to anyone that likes a two ply head and certainly will be buying more when they need replacing."
