This vintage Ludwig USA shell pack brings together three closely matched drums in the classic No. 980 Super Classic size configuration. The pointed-corner Blue/Olive badges and neighbouring serial numbers place the set most plausibly around 1974 and strongly suggest that the shells left Ludwig together.

The 22" x 14" bass drum, 13" x 9" rack tom and 16" x 16" floor tom provide the full-sized proportions associated with classic rock, pop and studio setups of the period. Its original Champagne Sparkle wrap has matured to a warmer gold-brown tone while retaining the characteristic mixture of silver, copper-pink and gold particles.

This should be viewed as a characterful vintage player's kit rather than a completely unmodified collector-grade example. The rail mount remains usable, but the bass drum and tom mounting areas show evidence of previous alterations, all detailed below.

Condition:

• In Fair Pre Loved Condition - This vintage shell pack shows considerable age-related wear to the Champagne Sparkle wrap, badges and chrome. Two drilled-and-filled holes are present near the bass drum badge, with further evidence of previous mounting work around the bass drum and 13" tom. The wrap has lifted at some joints and has been re-glued, and the tom bracket shows worn or missing fasteners; however, the rail-consolette mount is included and remains usable. All main parts are intact, the heads and shells have been cleaned and the chrome has been polished. The kit retains strong period character and is well suited to a player or restorer seeking a genuine 1970s Ludwig setup.
